Idaho Woodcarvers Guild

The Idaho Woodcarvers Guild, Inc. was established in the spring of 1980 when Maxie Mayhew, Tony Smart and several other individuals interested in woodcarving met to discuss the start of a carving club. The IWG club meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of every month (year-round) at the Woodcraft store in the Overland Park Shopping center, on Overland Road in Boise, Idaho. An informal group of carvers meets on all other Thursdays of every month of the year to promote woodcarving in the Treasure Valley.

The initial small group of members has since grown over the years to its present membership size of 43 members. They include a number of award winning and world class carvers, woodturners and instructors who have given many carving students their start.

The Guild's mission is to encourage and promote the art of wood carving, which includes:

  • Woodburning
  • Woodcarving
  • Woodturning and
  • Wood marquetry.
The Idaho Woodcarvers Guild is dedicated to assisting carvers increase their skill levels through instruction and association with expert carvers; fostering an appreciation of superior craftsmanship amongst its members and the general public; and meeting with other woodcarving organizations to exchange information, take part in events and encourage ideals that would promote general interest in wood carving art.
